What is it?

This cosmetic form of botulinum toxin, often referred to by its product name BOTOX Cosmetic, is a popular, non-surgical injection that works to provide a younger appearance by temporarily erasing frown lines, forehead creases and crow’s feet around the eyes.

What does it do?

BOTOX diminishes movement of the specific muscles that cause your skin to crease, wrinkle and sag. The toxin achieves this effect by blocking the nerve impulses, temporarily paralyzing the muscles that cause wrinkling, while also giving your skin a smoother and more relaxed appearance. Although the results are visible, treatment with BOTOX should not radically change your facial appearance. The muscle activity that causes frown lines between the brows is simply reduced, so you are still able to frown or look surprised without the wrinkles and creases between your brows.

What does it feel like?

A fine needle is used to introduce BOTOX Cosmetic into the particular muscles that cause the wrinkles, creases and sagging appearance. Most treatments take only 10 minutes or so, enabling you to leave the office looking exactly as you normally do – just younger and more relaxed. After treatment, it’s important not to rub the area for 12 hours and also to avoid lying down for several hours, so that the BOTOX will not migrate to other areas.

Who is it for?

BOTOX Cosmetic works best on “expression wrinkles,” including the furrows that develop between your eyebrows, the horizontal lines on your forehead and the crow’s feet around your eyes. These particular types of wrinkles respond beautifully to treatment with BOTOX, which is effective for men and women of all ages and skin types.
